5 Enchantments! “MISTY MEMORY has Shane Morgan, our hero, and Gayle, our heroine. This is a very cute story that keeps one guessing about Gayle’s ‘misty memory’. After the misty memory is cleared, you are left with a happy ever after ending. Very nice Ms. Perkins, extremely creative. WYRD FORTUNE is a cute relationship story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. I totally enjoyed it and was continually curious about the next turn of events, whether Leo and Jenna would finally get together. I just wish the story were a bit longer.” Desiree, Enchanting Reviews

“Quick romance smiles. That about sums up these two stories. They are quick reads like viewing snapshots of a given moment. I quite enjoyed them.

“Misty Memory” finds Gayle waking up in her boss’ bed. She doesn’t remember how she got there and now her co-workers believe she has a drinking problem. As for her boss, he’s enjoying himself a little too much. Is there more to the story…definitely.

“Wyrd Fortune” is part horoscope, part tarot cards and a whole lot of change. If you follow your horoscope, how do you know it is really in the stars or just someone leading you?

These two stories are for that quick read need. They will leave you contented.” ChrisCat Reviews

Misty Memory
Daggers of light attacked Gayle as she opened her eyes, and small hammers started a drum roll inside her head. Slamming her eyelids shut only made things worse and she desperately fought down a feeling of nausea.

Cautiously, and as slowly as possible, she opened her eyes again. Sunlight charged through the slightly open blinds. Quickly she turned away from the light, then wished she hadn’t. The room swam dizzily and her head felt heavy. So heavy she was afraid her neck might snap if she moved too fast. Her gaze crept around the room and she gasped. This wasn’t her bed or her room! She didn’t recognise anything!

Gayle forced herself to sit up for a better look. For several moments the room swung in a dizzy waltz but when it stopped she saw a definite masculine flavour in the décor and she shuddered. Where was she? She noticed her clothes were neatly folded on the chair beside the bed and she frantically lifted up the bedclothes to reveal her body covered in a designer t-shirt which definitely didn’t belong to her.

She flopped back on the pillows, questions racing through her head. How had she gotten here? Who had taken her clothes off? And most important—had she done something she’d regret in the light of day?

The door swung open and Gayle grabbed the sheet, pulling it up to her chin. All hopes of a friend rescuing her and taking her to their home were shattered when Shane Morgan entered the room carrying a tray.

“Good morning,” he announced cheerfully. “I’ve brought you breakfast. I hope orange juice, cereal, toast and coffee are okay.”

Shane placed the tray on the bedside table and looked down at her.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Fine,” she answered, ignoring the headache and feelings of nausea which raged through her body.

“I’ll leave you to eat your breakfast in peace.” His teeth glinted in his tanned face as he smiled at her. “Then we have to talk.”

He closed the door behind him as he left the room and Gayle flung herself from the bed and lunged towards the other door, praying that it led to the en suite. She reached the toilet just in time, but the vile smell of the alcohol she retched from her stomach made her feel sick again. A glance in the mirror didn’t help. Her skin had a pale, translucent look while the hazel eyes looking back at her from the reflection seemed to swamp the rest of her features. Thank goodness she kept her brown hair short. A quick run through with her fingers soon had it tidy.

Back in the bed, too weak to try and remember the events of the previous night, she gingerly nibbled on the toast, then took a sip of coffee. Luckily, after an initial churning grumble, both swallows stayed inside her. She continued nibbling and sipping until the toast and coffee were gone. With food in her stomach she felt much better but didn’t feel strong enough to face the cereal. The orange juice helped to enervate her as it replaced some of the liquid she’d lost to dehydration. Now that she felt slightly better, Gayle could search her memories and try to recall what had happened to her.

Wyrd Fortune
“But what about the man of my dreams?” The woman glanced at her companion, a worried look crossing her face. “Do you mean he’s not right for me?”

“I’m not sure of the exact circumstances, but the relationship doesn’t appear to last long.” Jenna glanced at the man through lowered eyelashes, trying to see his reaction. He didn’t seem too perturbed by her words but the woman appeared flustered.

“So you mean Leo is the man of my dreams but nothing will come of it?”

“I can’t see the specifics,” Jenna said carefully, aware she might be in trouble if the man took exception to her words. “This gentleman may not be the man of your dreams and the relationship shown by the cards hasn’t started yet. I can see the man in question has recently entered your life, but not if he is in fact...” Jenna nodded in the direction of the unperturbed Leo.

“In other words you don’t know what will happen.” Leo’s lips curled in a sneer as he spoke. “You people take vagueness to the extreme.”

Jenna’s temper rose, but she throttled it down. She knew getting angry would not help the situation. The reading ended with a few of the usual platitudes but when she stopped, both man and woman stayed seated as if waiting for further disclosures.

“Is that it?” the woman asked. “You haven’t told me anything I didn’t already know.”

“I can only tell you what the cards tell me,” Jenna explained patiently. Why did everyone expect their whole future to be set out before them? Some got angry when they didn’t hear of love and money coming their way, which is why Pat remained in the reception area when clients were in the consulting rooms.

“Well, I think it’s a con,” the woman stated angrily.

“Calm down, Lucy,” Leo said, and Jenna glanced at him in surprise but his next words refueled her anger. “We knew what to expect before we came in here.”

“I’m sorry...” Jenna tried to explain she couldn’t tell them what wasn’t there, but the young woman stormed to her feet.

“Sorry doesn’t help. I don’t think I got proper value for my money. You gave me a load of rubbish about love and overcoming obstacles. That could apply to anyone. I won’t be coming here again!” Spinning on her heel, the woman stormed from the room.

Leo held out his hands and shrugged his shoulders.

“Sorry,” he said and followed Lucy from the room.
