Debbie Fritter
lives in Southcentral Wisconsin with her husband, their four
adult children, one grandchild and two horses (an Arabian
mare and an American Paint gelding). Both Debbie and her husband
grew up in this area and went to high school together, having
met in 1972 just one year before graduation.
She finished her first manuscript in a month's time, joined
Romance Writers
of America and the state chapter. She did and finally
finished what would be her first published novel ... The Perfect
Match. Today Debbie enjoys life with her loving husband, work
full-time
Debbie comes from a family
of artists ... an aunt who did oil painting, a brother who
is a cartoonist, a son and nephew who both strive to be on
the silver screen, even her grand-daughter is showing the
signs of writing her own picture books ... painting a picture
of some kind is in her blood. Debbie's step-daughters and
step-son are just as creative but in other ways.
Debbie first began writing in the early 1970s
while in high school. She took every creative writing course
that was offered (grammar was not my best course) at the time
and focused my energy for many, many years after that time
on poetry. It wasn't until a dear friend's sister revealed
that she was going to become a published romance author that
got Debbie's own ball rolling. She finished my first manuscript
in a month's time, joined Romance Writers of America and the
state chapter, Wisconsin Romance Writers of America. Like
so many beginning writers, Debbie thought she was going to
set the romance world on fire and everyone would think she
was great ... surprise! The Madison Area of WisRWA had some
of the toughest critiquers she'd ever seen ... and all unpublished
(at least at the time). Well, you can just about imagine what
she thought. But she hung in there, took her licks and tried
to perfect a manuscript that still collects dust. Debbie tends
to write slow, taking her time and making sure the facts right.
When Debbie started her second manuscript, she was worked
a full-time job, a part-time job and was a single mom. One
day she decided that something had to go and dropped the part-time
job and quit writing for a little over a year. Her writing
friends won't let her forget about them though and finally
convinced Debbie to come back to the fold. She did and finally
finished what would be my first published novel ... The Perfect
Match.
Today Debbie enjoys life with herloving husband,
work full-time, write every other day for at least two hours,
go to play with the horses on the days she doesn't write (weather
permitting), and try to keep in touch with family members.
If it's one thing Debbie's learned over the
years of her life it's that you can never stop dreaming and
reaching for the stars, because sooner or later you just may
get to touch one and it'll bring you more happiness than you
can ever imagine. She feels she's been lucky enough over the
past couple of years to have been able to reach out and touch
two stars ... and Debbie's still reaching for more.
