I’m drawn to words. The way they
look. The way they sound. They absolutely fascinate me. I’m the
type of child who could sit down with an encyclopedia and be a happy
camper. Or go through the dictionary and highlight every word remotely
pertaining to mythology.
Um…yes. I am odd. *laughing*
I’ve always wanted to write. But
when I was younger, I would wait until the urge was almost unbearable.
Then the words would spill onto the page, and it would be like releasing
a pressure valve. Until the next time.
I’m a single parent of three beautiful
teenage girls. I work full-time besides the writing. Time is at a premium
in my little world. So I finally decided to chunk the “all or
nothing” approach about four years ago and settle into my head
with the goal of finishing a book.
I did. And it was remedial. I can say that now. Back then, I thought
it was gold. I had no concept of form. And even though I thought the
characters rocked, they didn’t have a literary leg to stand on.
So I tucked that little gem away and
started another. The second book I wrote was Perfect Timing. A Time
Travel Romance set in my great state of Oklahoma. What happens when
a man from the future falls in love with a woman from the past and can’t
have her?
Then Virtually Yours rolled off my keyboard. I wanted to know what love
would be like in the world of Virtual Reality. And having no knowledge
base of it, I crafted the world myself. It was the first book I sold
to Whiskey Creek Press. Perfect Timing was the second. That was over
two years ago. I was overjoyed. It was the culmination of a dream that
started when I was so young.
Then the floodgates opened.
Not only did the words come, they sometimes
came so fast that I couldn’t type quickly enough. And then I had
an idea for another story. (This is one sentence that pops up in my
vocabulary ALL the time).
But this next story was HAWT. I mean, turn the fans on and lay in ice
water hot. So I decided to submit it to Whiskey Creek Press Torrid.
What He Wants, my first full-length Torrid novel, was the number one
bestseller for 2006. I’ve never written such an alpha male and
likely never will again. Sheridan is sex incarnate. Powerful, arrogant,
and always in control.
I’ve also written several short stories for Torrid. They’re
listed on my Author Page on the site. My second full-length novel, Programmed
for Pleasure, is available now. And I have to admit, I love the story.
What happens when the Ultimate Sex Toy, fashioned for pleasure, begins
to emote? And then the scientist who created him and the unsuspecting
test subject start seeing each other with no clue as to who each other
really are?
And I began to realize that I had two types of stories in me. I had
both the traditional romance and the erotic romance. I decided to fashion
a pen name for myself so as my girls wouldn’t be too mortified
when it became clear to their friends that I wrote “the spicy
stuff.” So for all the Torrid material, I write under C’ann
Inman.
I always say I write Contemporary with a twist. All of my romances are
set in the here and now. But I’ll play with them a bit and add
to them.
I love Paranormal Romance. I can push
the boundaries even farther. The Portrait, my first Paranormal Romance,
received four and a half stars from Romantic Times Magazine. And isn’t
that a lovely thing to behold? But I always find myself pushing to create
works that haven’t been done to death. To put my little fingerprints
all over new ideas and shape them into my own.
Then came the idea for a series that wouldn’t let me sleep at
night. Books that followed four goddesses as they struggled to find
their power in helping mortal women. And the Elemental Guardian series
was born. Fire Goddess and Water Goddess are available now. Wind Goddess
and Earth Goddess will be available next year.
I believe that every woman is a Goddess. Sometimes we simply forget
ourselves in the day-to-day. And a woman’s strength can move mountains.
Or, in my case, write books.
Let’s face it. You’ve got to love a career where you can
talk about the voices in your head and not say hello to men who want
to put you in a jacket that buckles in the back.
I find that I write what interests me.
I grew up on Fairy Tales. We didn’t have a lot of money, but I
would find a hardback book of Fairy Tales under the Christmas Tree every
year. I read Anderson, Grimm, and the classics. They absolutely enchant
me to this day. So I decided to create a story that dips into that world.
One Enchanted Evening will be out February next year. What does a cynical
girl do when the prince of a fairy tale kingdom needs her help? Ivy
tries to ignore it all. But with a gnome and fairy inhabiting her workspace,
she quickly changes her mind.
Writing to me is like breathing. It’s
an outlet that I need and crave. I’ve jotted down notes on the
back of a receipt with only five words and created a full-length novel.
I don’t plot, per se. It makes my eye twitch to think of it. All
my stories are character driven. Let’s throw two people in an
interesting situation and watch them work it out. I’m shameless
like that.
So to sum it up…I’m a thirtysomething
woman with three beautiful daughters living my dream. Writing the books
that interest me. Telling the stories that come from my heart. And totally
unrepentant while doing it.
It doesn’t get any better.
